IMAGINE RETREAT

IMAGINE RETREAT

We are planning a retreat that will be meaningful, enriching, illuminating, and enjoyable. You don't want to miss it! And we don't want you to miss it either.

And yes, we know January 31 seems like a long way off! But we wanted to get you the dates ASAP so you can mark your calendars and register. (Also, this is an off weekend for the NFL. It falls between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl—just in case anyone was wondering!)

Here's more information about the retreat.

What: We'll be led by Dave Odom, executive director of Leadership Education at Duke Divinity School. Dave led our Imagine Retreat in April of 2023, and we’re thrilled for him to return and facilitate our retreat again. He’ll lead us in three sessions: one on Friday evening and two on Saturday.

During our time together, we’ll reflect on what we’ve heard and learned as a congregation through our inclusion discernment process. Dave will invite us to imagine and recommend potential next steps as we work toward fulfilling our church’s call toward greater inclusion of all peoples.

Who: Everyone at 2BC is invited to the retreat (high school age and up!). Whether you've been a member for 40 years or just started attending recently, we want you to come. Your attendance will also be rewarded with an enjoyable, rich, and meaningful weekend.

We’ll offer activities for children ages birth-5th grade throughout the retreat with the fun themes of Glow Crazy on Friday night and Go Wild! on Saturday (reservations required).

When: Friday, January 31, 5:30-8 p.m.

Saturday, February 1, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Friday dinner, plus Saturday breakfast and lunch, are included. We'll have one session on Friday evening and two on Saturday.

Where: We'll gather in the Social Room at 2BC.

How: Register for the retreat by clicking the LINK below. Registration is required so we can plan for food. There is no cost for the retreat. The registration deadline is January 24.

If you need transportation to and from the retreat, call the church office at 816-781-2824, and we'll arrange it!

2BC Serves

2BC Serves is our monthly missions initiative when we organize service projects in our community. The projects are family-friendly opportunities for our congregation to serve together.

Our November project is a food drive at Price Chopper for In As Much Food Pantry. We have hosted Food Drives in both the fall and spring and each time they are a huge success! This is a great service opportunity for families with kids.

  • On Saturday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., we need volunteers to pass out food lists and grocery bags to shoppers at Price Chopper. We'll also load food donations onto the In As Much truck.

  • We'll have a table at the front doors. As shoppers enter the store, we'll give them lists and grocery bags.

  • The hope is that they will buy a few items from the list and bring them back to donate to In As Much. Then, we'll load the items into the truck.

  • You can sign up for one-hour shifts. Kids are welcome!

  • We'll be at the Price Chopper across from Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. (9717 N Ash Ave, Kansas City, MO 64157).

Trunk or Treat

It's October, and that means Trunk or Treat will be here soon! Mark your calendars for this year's event on Thursday, October 31, from 5-7 p.m. in our Lightburne parking lot.

Hundreds of kids and their parents come to Trunk or Treat each year, most of whom don't attend Second. We need lots of help to make Trunk or Treat a success! There are two ways you can help:

1. Donate candy. You can drop off individually wrapped candy (any variety; it doesn't have to be peanut-free) in the red wagon in the Welcome Center.

2. Sit with your vehicle and pass out candy during the event. Email Angie Fuller at afuller@2bcliberty.org to sign up to pass out candy.

Thank you for your help! We can't do Trunk or Treat without you!

Life in Christ Exploring Ephesians Sermon Series

We hope you can join us for worship as we begin a new sermon series exploring the book of Ephesians.

Here's a note from Jason about the series:

The New Testament letter to the Ephesians is theologically rich and can be powerfully personal. The first half explores the story of the Gospel - how all history came to its climax in Jesus, as well as Christ’s creation of a global and diverse community of followers. The second half explores how the Gospel should affect the way we live our lives, individually, in our community, and within our families. From September 15 until the end of February, our Sunday sermons will be rooted in Ephesians and focused on the manner and meaning of life in Christ. May our understanding and impact be enriched as we grow and worship together.

You definitely want to attend and check out all the ministry tables. If you've never been to a Ministry Fair before, here's a preview of the morning:

Each ministry at 2BC has a table with information. A person involved in that ministry will be at the table to answer any questions you might have and tell you more about what they do.

Attendees walk around and usually end up learning about ministries they didn't even know about!

It's a great opportunity to find a place to connect and start serving.

And... there will be donuts!
