You'll hear three stories about individuals who have stepped up, made genuine efforts to understand “the other,” and helped others live in harmony and peace.

Their stories — two Northern Irish women, a Muslim and a Catholic ministering among non-Catholics — will challenge us to move beyond wringing our hands at circumstances that divide us and seek out “the other” as a first step to clearing up misunderstandings and healing divisions.

IMAGINE RETREAT
Jan
31
5:30 PM17:30

IMAGINE RETREAT

We are planning a retreat that will be meaningful, enriching, illuminating, and enjoyable. You don't want to miss it! And we don't want you to miss it either.

And yes, we know January 31 seems like a long way off! But we wanted to get you the dates ASAP so you can mark your calendars and register. (Also, this is an off weekend for the NFL. It falls between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl—just in case anyone was wondering!)

Here's more information about the retreat.

What: We'll be led by Dave Odom, executive director of Leadership Education at Duke Divinity School. Dave led our Imagine Retreat in April of 2023, and we’re thrilled for him to return and facilitate our retreat again. He’ll lead us in three sessions: one on Friday evening and two on Saturday.

During our time together, we’ll reflect on what we’ve heard and learned as a congregation through our inclusion discernment process. Dave will invite us to imagine and recommend potential next steps as we work toward fulfilling our church’s call toward greater inclusion of all peoples.

Who: Everyone at 2BC is invited to the retreat (high school age and up!). Whether you've been a member for 40 years or just started attending recently, we want you to come. Your attendance will also be rewarded with an enjoyable, rich, and meaningful weekend.

We’ll offer activities for children ages birth-5th grade throughout the retreat with the fun themes of Glow Crazy on Friday night and Go Wild! on Saturday (reservations required).

When: Friday, January 31, 5:30-8 p.m.

Saturday, February 1, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Friday dinner, plus Saturday breakfast and lunch, are included. We'll have one session on Friday evening and two on Saturday.

Where: We'll gather in the Social Room at 2BC.

How: Register for the retreat by clicking the LINK below. Registration is required so we can plan for food. There is no cost for the retreat. The registration deadline is January 24.

If you need transportation to and from the retreat, call the church office at 816-781-2824, and we'll arrange it!

Christmas Eve 4:00 p.m. Service

We will have two identical worship services on Christmas Eve at 4 and 9 p.m.

One of our favorite Advent traditions is having our children and students play Christmas music before our 4 p.m. Christmas Eve service. We'd love to have kids age preschool through high school prepare one or two Christmas carols to play.

Contact Chip at chandrich@2bcliberty.org or Angie at afuller@2bcliberty.org if your child would like to play.

Sunday Morning Advent Bible Study, "Unwrapping Christmas"
Dec

Sunday Morning Advent Bible Study, "Unwrapping Christmas"

Like last year, instead of having one separate Advent study, all of our Sunday morning classes can participate in the same Bible study during their individual class meetings. The study, “Unwrapping Christmas,” is based on four devotionals from this year’s Advent Devotional Guide. Each week, we’ll examine a devotional and deepen our understanding of the Ephesians passages we have been studying over the past few months and will continue to study during Advent.

If you do not regularly attend Sunday morning Bible Study, check with our greeters in the Welcome Center, located near the Kansas Street entrance. They will help you find a class.

All Church Christmas Party at the Edwards' Home

Join us for a come-and-go reception at the home of Jason and Christy Edwards. The deacons will provide delicious Christmas cookies and punch (gluten-free options will be available).

Jason and Christy's address is available on The Hub or by calling the church office at 816-781-2824. Please note that the Edwards family recently moved. Their new house is actually within walking distance of the church. Instead of having a shuttle, we are asking people to please park at the church and walk up to their house. There are a few parking spaces on the street in front of their house. Let's leave those open for those who can't walk as far and need to park closer.

It's a three-course dinner with a fun twist: each course is served at a different location. At one house, an appetizer is served, at the next, we'll have the entree, and have dessert at our final destination. All for the low, low price of, well, free. We’ll meet at 6 p.m. and finish at about 9:30 p.m.
