A Note from Rachel Mumaw-Schweser!

Hi, Second Baptist!

If you had told Noah and me just a year ago that we’d be moving to Liberty, we probably wouldn’t have believed you. But now we’re so excited to be joining Second Baptist and moving to such a wonderful place!

I had the privilege of growing up in Portland, Oregon, where I loved attending my evangelical Baptist-turned-nondenominational church every Sunday morning and Wednesday night. While I loved my church, I didn’t see a path forward in ordained ministry as a child because women were not allowed to be pastors in my church at the time. It wasn’t until I was in college at Southern Methodist University that I received my call to ordained ministry. This led me to attend Perkins School of Theology. I worked at a few Methodist churches while I was there before getting called back into the Baptist world through the Baptist House of Studies. Most recently, I worked in college campus ministries affiliated with both the UMC and the Presbyterian Church USA. My ecumenical experiences have deepened my love for the Church in all of its facets, while also reminding me why I love the Baptist tradition more than any other. I believe that God is big enough to meet us where we are, in the way that makes our hearts sing, and the sharing of those experiences in community is what makes the Church so special.

When Noah and I aren’t working, we spend most of our time snuggling with our two cats, playing board games or video games, or finding new restaurants to try. We’re looking forward to joining the community of Second Baptist and meeting you all in a few weeks!

See you soon,

Rachel
