Second Friends Preschool Celebrates 30 Years by Becky Gossett
Can you believe we are celebrating 30 years of preschool at Second Friends? What a tremendous privilege to show God’s love to decades of children who’ve come through our doors. We are ready to start our next 30 years!
Here are some top memories and facts about our program.
Liberty’s first preschool, Little Tots, was housed at Second Baptist and led by Loreta Moore.
Little Tots moved out of 2BC during the construction of our current education wing.
In 1994, the preschool began because our Minister of Education, Harold Phillips, believed it was important to offer preschool to the community in our NEW education wing.
In the first year, the preschool had one classroom.
The Board of Directors/Advisory Board has always included caring church members.
Many members of 2BC make regular contributions directly to the preschool to enhance the program and ensure the staff has competitive pay.
Two staff members, Sammi Marvel and Terry Harper, have worked at the preschool for over 28 years.
The directors of Second Friends have always been church members: Debbie Lassiter, Angela Bush, Brooke Fisher, Suzie Goertz, and Becky Gossett.
The playground was replaced last year by a new playground after 28 years.
Our mission statement includes this: We provide many opportunities for children to discover, explore, question, wonder, and discuss experiences.
This year, there are 14 staff members at the preschool. We added one new staff member this year. All others have been with the preschool for at least six years.
We use five rooms in the preschool area for classrooms. We use one room for specials: Music, Spanish, and Bible Time.
