Reflections on Summer & Looking Ahead to Fall by Connie McNeill
What a wonderful experience this summer has been for us to gather in our ACTS Groups and talk about our experiences of seeing God at work around us and in us. It is safe to assume that Jason is having some of the same experiences while he is on his sabbatical. The Spirit is at work in him during this time.
By the time you read this, our ACTS Groups have concluded. For your sake, I hope you participated. We have had so many people tell us how much they have appreciated the experience together and the material. Andrea Huffman adapted discipleship material she has experienced this past year with a group called Gravity Leadership. She helped us focus on the same things Jason is focusing on while he is away. The Spirit has been working in us during this time.
Our next Pastoral Resident will arrive on August 9 or so and begin her ministry with us on August 15. Alena [ah-leen-ah] Vaughn comes here from her role as missions pastor at Sugar Land Baptist Church in Houston, TX. Her support team, led by Leslie Bunch, is preparing for her arrival. Ken Personett is leading the team to prepare the inside of the house, and John George is taking the lead on getting the yard under control.
Our Ministry Fair will again kick off our fall on September 11, and yes, there is a Chiefs game later that afternoon. We will have a breakfast/brunch food truck for the morning. If you still haven’t found a way to become more involved at 2BC, the Ministry Fair will be very helpful as you have the chance to visit with ministry leaders and sign up to get involved.
On November 13, we plan to gather again in Heritage Hall for our church-wide Thanksgiving Meal. Remember how good it feels to have that meal with each other and our families? It’s been a while. Two weeks later, we begin Advent 2022 on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend, as together we anticipate the coming and coming again of the Christ child at Christmas.
I hope this preview of the coming months is exciting for you. Lots of great things are planned for our church family. The Holy Spirit has been at work this summer and will continue to work amongst us this fall. We look forward to experiencing the Spirit together with you.
