Since 1843, missions has been at the core of Second Baptist’s identity. Second Baptist began with twelve people who gathered around a clear purpose: to support the missions cause. They chose the name “Second” intentionally—so the new church would be known for a different posture than the anti-missions Baptist church already present in Liberty.
That missional beginning has continued to shape who we are. Over the years, members of Second Baptist helped start several key community organizations in Liberty, including Meals on Wheels (meals were once prepared in our church kitchen), Love INC, and In As Much Ministries. Many in our congregation continue to serve alongside these partners today, showing up with steady commitment and practical care.
Each year, we mark this heritage in a way that’s true to us. On the first Sunday of May, we celebrate our anniversary and our missions story with Serve Sunday—a brief worship service followed by hands-on projects across the community. It’s a tangible reminder that our faith is meant to take shape beyond our walls.
We offer mission and service opportunities for every age group, from children to adults, with options that range from ongoing partnerships to seasonal projects.
Our BEyouandBElong Team was born out of a heartfelt desire to support adults with intellectual disabilities in our community—many of whom already call our church home. Thanks to a CBF Ministries Council Grant, the team is building a sustainable, enriching, and affirming ministry that includes shared meals, life-skills classes, social events, and spiritual formation.
