Chip Handrich

Associate Pastor of Worship & Music

Chip Handrich serves as associate pastor of worship and music at Second Baptist Church, where he oversees all aspects of worship across the life of the congregation. His responsibilities include selecting music for worship, conducting the Sanctuary Choir, leading worship in the 9 a.m. contemporary service, and collaborating with the worship planning team to choose hymns and plan both services. He also oversees the Arts and Environment Team.

Chip holds a Bible and music diploma from Baptist Bible College, a bachelor’s degree in music education with an emphasis in voice from Friends University, and a Master of Music Education from Wichita State University. His advanced vocal training includes study at the Institute of Voice Performance Pedagogy at Oberlin Conservatory with Richard Miller and completion of all levels of Somatic Voicework™—The LoVetri Method—at Shenandoah Conservatory.

As a performer, Chip served as tenor soloist for the Wichita Chorale Society’s performance of Messiah before being appointed conductor and music director of the chorus. His additional solo appearances include the Peoria Bach Festival, the Frederick Bach Festival, Mozart’s Requiem, and the tenor quintet from Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 at the Luther 500 Choral Festival under the direction of Helmuth Rilling. This combination of education, performance, and leadership experience informs his work in cultivating healthy, expressive vocal sound in both choirs and soloists.

Chip enjoys collecting and selling antique and vintage items, traveling to the beach or mountains, camping, reading, and clock repair. He sings with the William Baker Festival Singers. Chip is married to his high school sweetheart, Marcie, and they have three grown sons.
