Walk with Christ alongside others

Sunday Morning Bible Study Groups

Sunday morning groups meet weekly from 10:00–10:45 a.m. These gatherings provide a steady place to study Scripture, reflect on faith, and form meaningful connections. All are welcome, and there is a group for every interest and life stage.

Young Adult Small Group

Room 503

Led by Melissa Dowling

All young adults are invited to join our Young Adult Small Group for friendship and community.

Milton Horne’s Class

Via Zoom

Led by Milton Horne

This group consists of persons interested in Christian faith as it encounters contemporary culture. We read books on topics with a view to processing such ideas through the eyes of informed faith.

The Potter’s Wheel

Room 606

Rotating leadership by class members

Our class name reflects our belief that we are all still in formation. We base our discussion and exploration on the texts appointed by the Christian Lectionary. Most of our members are in their 30’s, 40’s, or 50’s, but adults of any age are welcome. We are a warm and supportive group, and we also meet outside class a few times each year for social gatherings.

Soul Food

Assembly Room

Led by Connie McNeill

Soul Food is a community group of Bible study and growing friendships. Our curriculum is the Bible and the conversations that happen around the tables. We always have delicious refreshments and laugh out loud throughout the hour.

The Seekers Class

Room 415

Rotating leadership by class members

The Seekers Class seeks to grow in understanding and applying scripture, increasing our outreach to others, and building community. We use the Baptists Today Bible study material. Most of us are middle-aged couples and singles. We begin with the Bible study material, including plenty of—sometimes vigorous—discussion. At 10:30, we begin a time of sharing.

The Tanner Class

Tutt Chapel

Led by Blane Baker

The Tanner Class is an engaged group that enjoys discussion and dialogue. We use the Baptists Today material to provide background for each lesson. Conversations then emerge, and we generally explore how Bible study impacts our daily lives. The group is composed mostly of retired persons.

Winepress

Room 410

Led by Jeff Langford

The Winepress Class examines biblical texts, poses questions, and explores cultural and personal viewpoints as we seek to connect more deeply with Christ. Each week, we’ll try to apply what we’ve learned from the scriptures and each other. All are welcome, no matter your age, background, or level of biblical knowledge.

Pop-Up Groups & Other Opportunities

In addition to ongoing groups, Second Baptist hosts short-term “pop-up” studies throughout the year. These typically meet for 4–6 weeks around a specific book or topic.

We also offer opportunities for adults to gather throughout the year outside of Bible study and small groups. Every summer, we host Adult VBS—a four-day experience including Bible study, workshops, and a fun field trip. Additionally, we offer all-church retreats focused on a specific topic for learning and spiritual growth.

Our monthly Second Wednesdays gatherings are a regular anchor for our adults and children. We gather once a month for dinner together and a time to be with one another in welcoming community.
