"Put Me In Coach!" by Kim Halfhill

When my husband starts talking about sports, I hear something like this. “The sportsy sports person did this sportsy sports thing, and then more sportsy sports things happened.”  Perhaps then, I’m not the best person to be talking about a kick-off of any kind, but here goes. We’re gearing up for Fall Kick-off Sunday at 2BC in a few days, and I couldn’t be more excited about the season ahead!  (See what I did there?)

As you get ready to cheer on the hometown team this Sunday after worship, have you given much thought lately about who’s on your team?  Merriam-Webster defines team as “a number of persons associated together in work or activity.”  Who is rooting for you, encouraging you, challenging you, and helping you grow in this work of life?  Community groups provide us with a space to nurture our relationship with God while we grow in relationship with others – our team.

Over the past year, we’ve been more intentional about cultivating opportunities for community at 2BC. Here are just a few things people have said about their experiences in community groups this year.

  • “My community group is what is helping me grow spiritually.”
  • “I was able to have genuine connections with other church members and be involved in deep conversations that helped me learn more about others, myself, and my relationship with God. It was really nice to have a space every couple of weeks where I could discuss my walk with God openly and without judgment and be met with heartfelt responses of encouragement and advice.”
  • “Now, I know that we all need community, fellowship for ourselves, and to become closer to God.”
  • “I have a better understanding of how my faith has been built and impacted over time.”
  • “It’s reassuring and encouraging to know that others have the same questions and issues as me.”

So, I’ll ask again. Who’s on your team?  Will you consider investing in a community group this year?  Will you answer the call to serve on a ministry or mission team?

Get off the bench and join us this Sunday, September 8, for 2BC’s Fall Kick-off Sunday. We’ll worship together (8:30, 9:45, and 11:00 a.m. all services are in the Sanctuary), learn about opportunities to grow and serve together at the Ministry Fair (9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.), and fellowship together around food trucks (following the 11:00 a.m. service). Let’s get ready for the best season yet!  (And don’t worry – the game will be on in the Welcome Center and Social Room after worship.)
