Holy Week Devotional Guide Preface

In Galatians 5:22-23, Paul names fruit that ought to grow from a soul saturated in God’s Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. During this Lenten season, we’ve been committed to collaborating with God’s Spirit in the cultivation of this fruit. Our hope in doing this is that we might nurture more of God’s abundant, Easter life in us – and through us – in the life of the world. We’ve reflected on various ways we might engage in this good work, but in the midst of all our efforts, the regular practices of prayer, meditation, and the prayerful reading of scripture are always essential.

With that in mind, we offer you the soul gardening tools found in our Holy Week Devotional Guide of scriptures and our reflections on them as one resource for further soul cultivation. As we join with Christians across the globe in paying close attention to Christ’s life in our midst today and by paying attention to Christ’s activity on this Holy Week that culminated in crucifixion and resurrection, may these words from Scripture and our Second Baptist faith community prompt your communion with the Holy Spirit, preparing you once again to celebrate resurrection and the abundant harvest of God’s Spirit in your life and in the life of the world.

You may pick up a hard copy of the devotional guide at the church, or follow our blog this week.

May the Spirit of the Living God fall fresh upon you this week,
Jason Edwards, Senior Pastor
