Deacon Ministry @ 2BC

Matthew 25:40 reminds us that when we serve others, we serve Christ.

Deacons at Second Baptist Church have long been a service-oriented body committed to serving the needs of our congregation. The Deacons work in a variety of ways to support our ministerial staff each week, such as hospital visits, outreach to guests at church, and ministry to families in crisis or members with special needs. As we head into the new year, we will be more intentional with that commitment searching for different ways to express our calling to serve.

You will begin to hear the term, “Congregational Care” more often as we focus specifically on areas of need for the congregation such as in-home visits to offer communion for those unable to join us for regular worship, checking in with those not seen in church for a while, and working with the Hospitality Team to be a welcoming presence to those coming into our church for the first time, just to name a few.

During our Deacon Retreat on Saturday, February 7, the deacon body and pastoral team will discuss how our deacon body can more intentionally offer congregational care. We’ll conclude the day by traveling to visit those from our congregation who are home-bound to share communion and prayer.

We covet your prayers and ask for guidance and wisdom in knowing more ways we can carry out Christ’s call to serve.
